Day Two!!

It's Monday evening and we are settling in for another long day tomorrow. Last night on our way back from the Sanctuary, we stopped off for some good ol' "Cajun Cookin". Here is a picture of the restaurant and our waitress, Melissa!

This morning we struggled to wake up when our alarm rang at 5:45am (3:45am PST).
As soon as Lo said, "The puppies are waiting", I quickly woke up!! We have been assigned to the morning shift (6:30-2:30). Of course, they welcome anyone who would like to work the afternoon shift, but we have been warned by other volunteers to stick as much as possible to working just your assigned shifts since many people burnout even after a couple of days.

When we arrived, all the dogs were up and ready for their morning potty walk. Unfortunately,
some of the sweeties couldn't wait, so we washed a lot of cages!! After breakfast, we washed MANY MANY dishes! While doing the dishes, we had the pleasure of meeting Rob and Becky who are from Sacramento, CA! Here are some pictures of our washing chores and of our new CA friends! After we ran out of clean towels (beds) for the dogs, Becky starting making some new "beds" out of donated t-shirts!!


The reasons for my wanting to come down here are endless, but
one of the biggest reasons was because of "the little one". He was found curled up in a little ball, in a kitchen sink. He hadn't eaten in weeks and was too sick to walk on his own. Today he and many other cats and dogs flew back to the Pasado sanctuary on a private jet. Here is a photo of the day he (Dezzy) was rescued. And today, I proudly sat with him, for a photo of this beautiful little baby!

There truly are no words to describe what these animals have been through. No creature should ever have to endure such trauma. The truth is, everytime I clean a cage, feed them or take them on a little walk, I feel like I have somehow, in some small way, made these beauties feel a little more loved.

Besides these lucky ones heading back with to Seattle, an organization located in Arkansas that specializes in rehabilitating aggressive pitbulls agreed to take 7-9 of the pitbulls. Unfortunately, there are so many pitbulls down here in bayou country, many are nice, but many are extremely dog aggressive since they have been trained for dog fights, or have come across others that are. And to make things worse, none of them are spayed or neutered. It's great that Pasado's has been so successful with not only reuniting returning New Orlanders with their pets, but also in placing unclaimed pets in facilities all over the country for fostering and adoption.
